With all of the conflicts in a lot of the world’s real estate it’s often rare to find an retreat of stability. The United states has been drawn into wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Violence is for sale and business is good. The middle-east is literally in the middle of a revolution that is growing across numerous nations. Add natural disasters of an epic scale such as what has happened in Japan recently and one may think that the earth is literally falling apart. Though, it could be argued that a haven from this can be found in Rio de Janeiro.

Anyone who has apartments or real estate in Rio de Janeiro has likely absorbed a great deal of the easy going culture that symbolizes Brazil. Just the image of a tranquil penthouse overlooking the lovely beaches of Ipanema or Copacabana is a testomony to this. The mindset to a place like this is one of holiday.

A very important factor to consider with this debate is not a complex notion to consider. It

Is Marketing About Being Organised?

15-05-2011

Tagged Under : Organised

Whenever I recruit for a new member of the team, I usually don’t ask for someone with marketing experience, but more for someone who is organised and has good admin skills.

Why? Because the vast majority of marketing I personally think is admin based and about being organised. Think about it:

  • Making calls to potential clients and following up
  • Sending out emails
  • Creating newsletters
  • Writing brochures, literature etc
  • Following up after networking events

To name but a few possible marketing tasks are all admin based, so when you’re doing your own marketing, if you’re good at admin and you’re organised, you’re not going to go far wrong. But, let’s look at when this is a problem. It’s so easy for marketing not to work because of lack of organisation. Imagine going to a networking event and then following up with everyone afterwards. Great job – that’s

10 Most Overlooked Issues in Estate Planning

A couple of days ago I blogged about the dangers of bad estate planning, and presented a hierarchy of worst to best ways to plan.  Today I’m providing a list of 10 of the most overlooked issues in estate planning (things that frequently aren’t dealt with in lesser methods of planning).  Many plans will address some of these items, but it’s a rare plan that has adequately covered everything.  The most important thing is that the person doing the planning is informed of all of the issues.  That way they can make an educated decision that certain things need or need not be provided for in their particular plan.  Here’s the list, in no particular order:

  1.  Probate – not considering court fees, attorneys fees, delay, frustration, etc. of a

TSX receives topping bid two days early

As the saying goes, I love it when a plan comes together.

When I wrote that the bid would come early next week, I didnt think it would be quite this fast. But, indeed, as you read here yesterday, the TD Bank-led bidding consortia is offering a topping bid for the Toronto Stock Exchange . Id been told Monday was launch day, but obviously it had to be hurried once the blogosphere got a hold of the pending news. Five hours of share trading with that rumour on a backwater blog is all the public markets can/should stomach . As always, it was a pleasure serving our loyal readers.

As for the proposal itself, Hallelujah. This is a great move for Canada, and a smart business deal as well.

The consolidation of real estate agencies continued today with the announcement that French &pany, Realtors is merging into Crye-Leike Realtors.

French &pany, founded in 1977 by Gail and Nick French, has five agents and will move out of its offices at 3181 Poplar and into Crye-Leike’s East Memphis office on Perkins.

Just three months ago, Coleman-Etter Fontaine Realtors merged into Crye-Leike with its principal saying it’s harder topete with big agencies.

That wasn’t the issue for French &pany, Nick French said, adding, “What I am looking for is broader technical support, better Web presence, that type of thing.”

French brings to Crye-Leike its reputation as a broker of finer properties, “a piece of the market they’d like to have,” French said.

Crye-Leike is the state’s biggest agency with 3,200 sales associates in nine Southern states.

“We expect to see more consolidation of firms as we all seek to be more efficient and provide better services to our customers,” Steve Brown, Crye-Leike’s general manager, said in a prepared statement.

Nick French will be a vice president at Crye-Leike, and the Frenches will operate there as The French Connection at Crye-Leike.
